From the original press release: Lee Fields is a bona-fide, 100%, unadulterated, pure, gut-bucket soul singer. While the crate-digging funk and soul community bestowed "legendary" status upon him due to his undeniably solid series of rare 7" singles (and one LP) recorded and released on his own independent labels in the 70s, he's never been one to sit in a dusty corner. New York label/production team Truth & Soul, are ready to bring him to light with a brand new album of beatheavy, deep soul ballads that will show soul-revivalists the world over what real soul is.

When Truth & Soul rose from Soul Fire's ashes in 2004, the first mission of label owners/producers Jeff Silverman and Leon Michels, was to record a sweet soul record that would be modeled after the near perfect formula that bands like The Moments, The Delfonics, and The Stylistics had created. The Day was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadnt slept. It was a beautiful hotel room, a beautiful perfect hotel room and it was six or seven in the morning. I wrote it on a acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with old broken down electronics that I have in my studio.

O “Πατέρας της Ethio-Jazz”, γνωστός στο ευρύ κοινό από το Soundtrack της ταινίας “Broken Flowers”, του Τζιμ Τζάρμους και την περίφημη σειρά Ethiopiques, έρχεται, έχοντας στο πλευρό του μερικούς από τους σημαντικότερους τζαζ μουσικούς από Αφρική και Ευρώπη, για να παρουσιάσει live το τελευταίο προσωπικό του δίσκο, “Mulatu Steps Ahead” αλλά και αγαπημένες μελωδίες από τα αμέτρητα αριστουργήματα του!

Ο Mulatu Astatke, ιδιαίτερα αγαπητός και στο ελληνικό κοινό, δε χρειάζεται ιδιαίτερες συστάσεις. Αποτελεί έναν από τους επιδραστικότερους αφρικανούς μουσικούς του 21ου αιώνα και θεωρείται ο πατέρας της ethio-jazz, καθώς ήταν ο πρώτος που ένωσε τον jazz και latin ήχο με την παραδοσιακή αιθιοπική μουσική. Στη μακρόχρονη καρριέρα του έχει συνεργαστεί με κορυφαίους μουσικούς όπως ο Duke Elington αλλά και με τους νεότερους όπως οι Heliocentrics (το άλμπουμ τους Inspiration Information κέρδισε το βραβείο του καλύτερου άλμπουμ του 2009, στα βραβεία Trophees Des Arts Afro-Caribeens στο Παρίσι), ενώ συνεχίζει την έρευνα του πάνω στον εκμοντερνισμό παραδοσιακών Αιθιοπικών οργάνων με έμφαση στο “Κραρ”, στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Χάρβαρντ και στο MIT Media Lab.

Στο νέο προσωπικό του άλμπουμ, “Mulatu Steps Ahead”, όπως φανερώνει και ο τίτλος του, εξερευνά νέες κατευθύνσεις στον fusion ήχο και στην μείξη Δυτικής jazz και παραδοσιακής μουσικής από την Αιθιοπία, μαζί με τη συμβολή παραδοσιακών μουσικών από την Αιθιοπία και μερικών από τους κορυφαίους μουσικούς της jazz και του αφρικανικού ήχου που εδρεύουν στο Λονδίνο.
